University leaders do not seem to have spared for the rewards they have given themselves or their staffs, even though a pandemic year and the professors have worked mostly from home.
The record for awards is held by the University “Aleksandër Moisiu” of Durrës, which has distributed a full 1.75 million euros for this item of expenditure. Under normal circumstances this might have seemed normal, but during an emergency year, it is unclear why these rewards were distributed.
To understand how meaningless these expenses are, it is enough to make a comparison with the University of Tirana, which is the largest in the country and has several times more professors. For the item of prizes, the University of Tirana has distributed 192 thousand euros. So, about 8 times less than that of Durrës which has several times less academic staff.
The University of Elbasan has also been generous when it comes to the reward they have distributed to professors. A total of 827 thousand euros were spent for this item during 2020-2021.
The same situation at the Polytechnic University where a lot of fat has been distributed this year. Full 357 thousand euros. So, almost twice compared to the University of Tirana. Here, too, the expense seems pointless, if we compare it with the number of staff.
