But meanwhile, across the globe there is a decrease in new cases according to German media, and the reason for this may not be vaccination because only a very small percentage of the population has been immunized so far. It is clear that hygiene and social distancing measures have done their job. Some researchers have already put forward the idea that due to the numerous mutations suffered, in the medium term, the virus may have weakened.
A team of researchers from the Universities of Atlanta and Pennsylvania published a sensational study in the journal Science, in which they predicted that mutations would soon turn the coronavirus from pandemic to endemic, and that this process is expected to be accelerated by vaccination. Previous experiences with the flu have shown that the incidence of infection is likely to drop immediately at some point, says Klaus Stöhr, the epidemiologist who led the WHO global flu program and research on Sars.
