The National Operational Center for Civil Emergencies reports that during the last 24 hours, 26 fires have been reported in the territory of Albania, but currently 5 fires are active.
In the forests of the village of Ndershen in Mirdita, pine and oak trees were burned. 4 firefighting vehicles went to the area and found it impossible to intervene, due to the very difficult mountainous terrain.
The area could only be intervened from the air, while a helicopter tried to put out the flames.
Other active foci are in the village of Halil, the municipality of Krujë, the village of Velçan in Berat, in the village of Bogë, Malësi e Madhe and in the village of Qukës in Përrenjas.
A large-scale fire has engulfed the hills of olive groves in the northwest of the city of Elbasan. The fire started near the village of Shijon and spread rapidly due to the wind and extreme temperatures.
All the work of the firefighters, the emergency team and the residents of the area is focused on saving the homes that are endangered by the flames.
An abandoned apartment has been burned while other houses are endangered.
The mountainous terrain has made it even more difficult to intervene with vehicles as the flames progress faster. Until now, there are hundreds of burned olive roots, hundred-year-old olives, but also young seedlings.
Another problem center in the district of Elbasan is the one in the mountains between Gramsh and Pogradec, where tens of hectares of beech and pine forests have been burnt by the flames. The firefighters of Gramsh and Pogradec municipalities, forestry teams and army forces have been working for two days to bring the flames under control.
