Immigrants disembarked today from lifeboats as dangerous voyages continue across the strait with England, despite last month’s tragedy.
A child and five women were among 31 migrants drowned last month when their boat sank after leaving the French coast. Investigations by British authorities and monitoring groups have recently revealed serious breaches of immigrant reception facilities in the south of Britain.
There were women who had been raped by immigrant trafficking gangs, and who had not received proper support, while minors were held with adults without tribal ties. Even in a September 2020 report it was stated that the facilities of the centers “were not fully equipped for their purpose”, said the British inspector of prisons Charlie Taylor.
He added that it was not clear why the government’s instructions were not followed, as staff inspectors complained of a lack of coordination.
