President Joe Biden has no intention of apologizing for his sensational statement that Putin cannot stay in power.
In a White House press release, Biden stressed, however, that his statement had nothing to do with regime change in Russia, but rather with a personal view of the Kremlin chief.
“I did not do it then, and I am not doing it now, I did not talk about a policy change. But I expressed the moral indignation I felt and I do not apologize for that. Nobody believes that I was talking about the overthrow of Putin… nobody believes that. “I just expressed my indignation at this man’s behavior.”.
Biden said his message was addressed to the Russian people:
“I was talking to the Russian people. “The last part of the speech was a conversation with the Russian people, it is just a simple fact that this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable.”.
Biden says he does not care if Putin views his comment as escalating rhetoric
“I do not care what he thinks. He will do what he will do, I think he is doing something that is not rational”.
Asked about a possible meeting with Putin, Biden said it depends on what Putin wants them to talk about.
