Scientists in Japan have created a new face mask that can detect Covidin instantly: this rare finding owes much to a special filter, which contains ostrich cells.
The cells themselves are found with antibodies that bind to the deadly virus and help identify it quickly.
The mask was created by a group of experts led by the head of Kyoto University, Yasuhiro Tsukamoto.
The presence of Covid in the breath exhaled by the person affected by the disease manages to activate a fluorescent light in the mask to detect traces.
Researchers say that the LED light of a smartphone could also be used as a source to detect Covid 19 spots on the mask in question, thus expanding the number of people who can use this innovative invention.
Ostriches are able to produce various antibodies that neutralize foreign entities in the body. These antibodies are extracted from ostrich eggs or from birds that have been injected with an inactive and non-threatening form of coronavirus.
By spraying antibodies on a filter from a worn mask, the reaction that occurs, reveals whether Covid-19 is present.
