The files of the former state security create the next turbulence of Albanian politics. The Speaker of the Assembly Lindita Nikolla showed the leaders of the parliamentary groups the details of the material forwarded to the Assembly by the file authority for the politician IM
It is for two documents. One of them is classified as secret but Top Channel has learned the content. In this document, it is stated that “in the secret file of the FT convict, in which the role as a State Security collaborator of IM AIDSKSH is found, the file has been found, but in order to proceed further with a decision, it asks the assembly to change the law.”
The file authority in the letter sent to the assembly says that:
Taking encouragement from the latest denunciation received in the institution on the purity of the image of one of the highest personalities of the state such as the former president of the republic Ilir Metaj, equipped with a certificate of purity of the image from the Mezini and Bezhani Commission, confirmed by our side with the decision dated 28.04.2017, it turns out that it actually appears in the documents created by the former state security structures. If the institution were in the conditions of reverifying the purity of Ilir Metaj’s image, which is not allowed by article 29 point 4 of the functional law, the research results would change.
The Dossier Authority has also shown other details regarding the former insurance materials for the IM citizen.
Based on Article 5 on the Right to Information on the documents of the former Insurance, to inform the IM citizen where, on the basis of verifications, there are documents in the archives of the former State Insurance. Processing file number 2565 consisting of a total of 140 anonymized digitized pages placed in Cd format that exist in the archives of the authority for the IM subject.
The Speaker of the Assembly Lindita Nikolla called it a shocking case and the Assembly must definitely react.
“That’s why today I called the leaders of the groups and the leaders of the security committee and the law committee, who I informed them about the letter from the Authority, the identity of the politician with the initials IM, as well as my readiness to convene the Assembly at any time that the forces political will need. I want to thank the Files Authority for the fair, independent and professional response, as well as for the courage in addressing this case, which raises important questions for our society and for political forces.”- said Lindita Nikola.
In Albania, according to the law, it is forbidden to take a public duty by former associates of the state security, only for the leaders of the new justice bodies. If the socialist majority will draft a new draft law that would ban the candidacy of former security collaborator politicians, it will need 84 votes along with a constitutional amendment.
