The National Inspectorate of Territorial Defense has suspended the activity of the oil production and extraction company “Bankers Petrolium”.
This measure, according to the official notification of the Inspectorate, came after the ascertainment of some violations identified in this subject during the controls exercised in the implementation of environmental protection.
According to the Inspectorate, the company has violated the law by not removing hazardous waste and as a result has caused contamination of the area where it operates, near the largest oil field in Patos – Marinez in Fier.
In addition to the suspension of the activity for an indefinite period, the Inspectorate, among other things, for these violations has punished the company with a fine of 2 million ALL.
Earlier in a meeting held with the mayors of the country a year ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama has requested intervention from all authorities responsible for the normalization of the situation with waste throughout the territory, warning criminal prosecution of individuals or entities that violate the law. .
In this context, the head of government has announced that the fight against waste mismanagement will be intensified and from April 2022 the entire territory of the country will be monitored by satellites to identify any illegal points of collection of aggregates or other environmental violations. .
