Vocational education has received a great deal of attention from the Government in recent years, becoming more and more oriented towards market needs.
The Minister of Finance and Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, spoke on the need to resize vocational education in order to strengthen the labor market with professional staff in the field of tourism, given that Albania recognizes every year an increasing number of tourists.
During an activity held in Vlora on “Strengthening the labor market with professional staff in the field of tourism on the eve of the opening of the tourist season”, which was also attended by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, Ibrahimaj said that the number of employees in the tourism sector in this region increased by 2500 people during the season, but she stressed, the offer of the Vocational School of Tourism in Vlora is only 140 students.
“Vlora has a large influx and demand for work throughout the summer season. There are more than 2500 employees per season per year. “With the increase in the number of tourists, the demand for work and the number of businesses operating in this field has also increased,” said the minister.
According to Ibrahimaj, it is our duty to prepare qualified staff, as it is not only necessary to build accommodation structures, but also for the level of service to be where it should be.
“There are more and more new hotels, with high standards that are being built, not only in the city but also in rural areas. There has been a lack of service quality over the years. “I am talking only about the kitchen, but about the services, waiter, receptionist, hotelier the whole chain”, declared Ibrahimaj
To address this issue, the Minister stressed the need to increase cooperation with business.
“Therefore, we want through a stronger cooperation with business to understand the requirements in real time and work today for next season and not today for this season.”she declared.
While the number of employees increases by 2500 people, during the season, the offer of the professional tourism school in Vlora is only 140 students per year.
“So the demand is much greater than the supply. It means that we will have to resize our entire offer in the sectors where it is most needed. And the sectors most in need is tourism, where Albania has a very high potential of information technology and digitalization.
And exactly for this in Vlora we have a vocational school for economic tourism and a vocational school with industrial direction which includes IT. We will expand this branch even further. “We are convinced that we need to invest in increasing human capacity in order to increase business productivity and the quality of service delivery.” stressed Minister Ibrahimaj.
There are currently 35 vocational schools in our country.
