Drug consumption is one of the most serious wounds of Albanian society, even more so when it comes to minors, who are exposed to dangerous substances.
A story was told today in “Alhqipria Live” by Drini, who started consuming drugs, the strongest one, heroin, when he was 10 years old. He says that it all started with a neighbor 10 years older, who gave him heroin for the first time. As a result of the overdose, he reveals that his younger brother has passed away.
The ordeal of suffering for Drini started when he was very small, when his father used systematic violence against his mother, brothers and sisters. Today he has two children and shows that he is very devoted to them.
“I was 10 years old. I started straight to red with cigarettes, heroin, not knowing what it was. A neighbor told me that I had the idea at that time. He was 20 years old, I was 10. I didn’t know that he had been drinking with my 8 year old younger brother for two weeks and I didn’t know it. I didn’t know where I would end up. We have been 3 brothers two sisters, when I started drugs they were divorced. There was also violence in my family. The father used violence not only against the mother but also against us. He was always violent, he came home drunk. We hid in the house so we wouldn’t eat any food. It was the mother who suffered all the hardship. The mother was a cleaner in the train wagons, while the father was a driver. The economic situation was not good, we had no conditions. We had a difficult childhood. The story started like this, we were all staying in the neighborhood, when the lunch hour approached, everyone would go home, I had nowhere to go, I had no one at home. I didn’t even continue school. At the age of 12, I ran away to Italy alone, I hid on a barge. I was no longer beaten in Albania, I wanted a different life. I was saying why can’t I be like the kids I saw on TV. I never had the love of my parents. Today I am the father of two children whom I love very much and who has given me the strength to hold back in everything. Every time I see my children I cry and I feel a warmth that I missed towards my parents. The middle brother also took drugs. 5 thousand old lek used to buy an injection”said Drini.
