The Albanian artist, Gjon Muharremaj, known by the stage name Gjon’s Tears, invited this evening to “A live night” on Top Channel, showed how his artistic name was born.
It all started with his grandfather’s tears as he sang his favorite song “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley.
Jjon says that his grandfather was his biggest motivation to take up music and worked hard to make him proud.
“I was interested in classical music and I started playing the piano, I had just started playing the piano when my grandfather came to our house on vacation, I had an electric piano and I had the song ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ by Elvis Presley, he told them yes this is my song favorite and told me can you sing for me. At that moment, I said to my grandfather that I have never had a corner, what do you mean, can I have a corner? I learned and learned the song as much as possible, and finally before he went to Canada to live there, I sang the song to him and he started to cry. It was the same feeling as with Bach. There I realized the value and possibility of music, that okay you can touch people in that way… and especially the culture of Albanians and Kosovo that normal grandparents never cry. When I look at the strongest man in my life with tears… those tears were very symbolic and very important to me. When I created the concept of John’s Tears, I always saved the tears. I always remember that my grandfather told me, I know you’ll grow up but I won’t be here with him without him, that’s why I went with everything for him to see, I’m proud and convinced that he has all things considered, that he was the beginning of everything, without him I wouldn’t have made music at all. I liked the piano, but my grandfather chose it for me, I tried other things. I tried karate, football”, said John.
We remind you that Gjoni is an Albanian singer and composer, who was born and built his career in Switzerland.
He managed to represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song “Répondez-moi” before the cancellation of the contest due to the pandemic.
The artist was selected again for 2021 with his song “Tout l’Univers” and finished in third place with 432 points, the best ranking for Switzerland since 1993.
