A serious event has shaken world diplomacy this Monday. The Italian ambassador, Luca Attanasio, was killed today during an attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A policeman who was in the car with the diplomat also passed away together with Attanasion.
The ambassador died as a result of the wounds received while the gunmen attacked the convoy.
International media suggest that Ambassador Attanasio was traveling with the United Nations food aid convoy to the city of Kanyamahoro when he was attacked by several terrorists.
It is suspected that the persons intended to take them hostage. During the armed conflict and the intervention of the Park Guards, a policeman was killed and the Italian ambassador was injured, who unfortunately died in hospital.
“The ambassador was shot during the attack on the United Nations convoy he was traveling in, and died as a result of his injuries,” a high-ranking diplomat told AFP.
Investigations are still ongoing on the dynamics and motive for the killing of the diplomat and police officer.
