The giant convoy of Russian tanks about 64 km heading to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev in the first days of the war suddenly disappeared.
A few days later it was reported that military vehicles were distributed to be relocated to other areas.
In a statement this Thursday, the Pentagon says it is unclear whether the convoy still exists. “They never fulfilled their mission,” said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.
The column became a symbol of Russian hardship on the battlefield, as it was repeatedly attacked by Ukrainian forces, who showed resistance and insistence on not surrendering.
Kirby adds for Fox News that the US wants Ukraine’s borders to be respected in the same way as the invasion began on February 24.
In 36 days of war, about 1,100 civilians have been killed in Ukraine, according to the latest United Nations estimate.
