The Prime Minister of the country Edi Rama has held today a joint conference with the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic.
During the conference was talked about the European Union mechanism for civil protection, where all European countries contribute to help neighboring countries in case of emergencies.
Asked by journalists what help can be given to neighboring countries as long as we do not have the necessary capacities for our country, Rama replied that Sazan’s situation is not to mourn, as all European countries ask for help from one- other in such situations.
What can Albania give when we needed the intervention of Greece to extinguish the Sazan fire?
Raman: This mechanism has been created by EU countries to cope with critical moments. When we talk about a fire that someone comes and gives us help, it is not to mourn because this is what all the most powerful countries do. Greece faces much more intense fires than we do, and all countries and cope with it through this mechanism.
This is not because we want it or because we now remember it but because of the reforms we have made. Albania has the parameters to become part of this mechanism.
This is done out of your sight because there are no developments to make news, today the director will visit the emergency center. We have worked hard on this but there is still work to be done.
Janez Lenarčič: You remember that years in the summer Albania faced as many fires as any other country in the Mediterranean. Albania has been one of those countries that have asked for assistance provided to you by EU countries. The EU civil protection mechanism exists and works.
