If you are dreaming with your eyes open for future travel while you are stranded at home due to the pandemic, why fantasize about the beaches of Bali or the canals of Venice, when space holidays may be possible?
In 2019, a California company, the Gateway Foundation, announced plans for a cruise-type hotel that could one day stand above the earth’s atmosphere. It was then called the Von Braun station, and the futuristic concept included 24 interconnected modules that formed a kind of giant wheel in Earth orbit, and was planned to be operational by 2027.
Now that several years have passed, the hotel has a new name Voyager Station, and will be built by Orbital Assembly Corporation, a new construction company headed by a former pilot, John Blincow, who also runs the Gateway Foundation. In an interview with CNN, Blincow explained that there have been some delays due to the pandemic, but construction of the space hotel is expected to start in 2026 and a space break may be a reality after 2027. We are trying to make the public understand that this golden smell of space travel is on the verge. “She is coming and she is coming fast,” said Blincow.
