A British man has been barbarically hanged by his Indonesian girlfriend on the exotic island of Bali as he talks in video with his family in Britain.
Matt Harper, 48, is suspected of being stabbed to death by Emmy Pakpahan in a Southeast Asian resort.
The father of two is believed to have been in a video call with his wife and stepmother when the incident happened.
Matt, who worked for luxury hotel company Karma, had been in a relationship with Pakpahan since the summer, his friends say.
Pakpahan, in her 40s, was born in Indonesia but has US citizenship from a previous marriage. She told police Matt had killed himself.
The woman was showing investigators a video where the man was dying at his home in Bali moments after Thursday’s alleged attack.
In some published images, the girlfriend says: “I do not know what happened, I do not know.”
Friends say that the couple were just lovers but the woman suggests in her photos that they were married because in one photo she wrote “Mr. and Mrs. Harper”.
In another bizarre video on social media she films herself thanking friends for their support after the news of her death.
The woman says on camera: “Of course I am shocked. “And if you do not hear from me, it is not that I do not want to answer but I need to process things.”
But Bali police have arrested him on suspicion of murder.
Another ex-boyfriend of Matt in Bali, Allin Efashion, told the daily ‘The Sun’: “I was with him before he went with Emmy. He was a good and kind man. I loved it so much. “He sent me a text a few days before he died, he said he hated Emmy because it was ruining his life.”
“He was a very good father to his two daughters and stepmother, and loved by everyone in Britain and Bali. Rest in peace”.
Other friends of the victim described Pakpahan as a “psychopathic” boyfriend who has previously been accused of financial fraud in the thousands of dollars, writes the British daily The Sun.
Matt had come to Bali from Britain in February 2020. He worked with the hotel group and often shared photos of his new “dream” life on the Indonesian island.
