Boris Johnson has drawn up a six-point plan to defeat Vladimir Putin, an effort that proves, among other things, how the British Prime Minister is seeking his country, which has seceded from the European Union, to take a central place in the global response to the horror of war in Ukraine. The chief executive in London insists the whole world join in his plan to repel Russian aggression. In this plan, Johnson calls for:
-creation of an international humanitarian coalition for Ukraine
– strengthening the military defense of Kiev
– tightening sanctions on Moscow
– Coordinated diplomatic efforts to mitigate the crisis
– a rapid campaign to strengthen security across the Euro-Atlantic area
– to fight at the same time the normalization of what Putin is doing in Ukraine, amid fears that as time goes on, the shock of the Russian president’s actions may begin to fade.
Johnson’s announcement came at a time when Ukrainian government officials said the situation in the Sumy region and in the city of Mariupol was “on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe.”
There is currently no electricity or water supply in two cities in the northern Sumy region, said government adviser Vadim Denisenko.
On Saturday, Ukraine and Russia agreed on a ceasefire aimed at removing civilians from Mariupol, but the ceasefire lasted less than 30 minutes before Russian bombing resumed.
