A Madagascar police minister survived the crash of the helicopter he was flying in and then swam for 12 hours to reach the ground.
Serge Gelle survived miraculously unharmed after a plane crashed into the northeast of the island nation on Monday. Gelle was spotted in the water by fishermen in a small boat who helped her get ashore, officials announced.
57-year-old Gelle was seen in the picture as he lay on the beach from exhaustion in his camouflage uniform. “It was not yet time for me to die,” the general said, adding that he felt cold but was not injured.
“But I’m not sad because I know my friends are alive. There were four of us in the helicopter. “I was sitting behind the pilot,” he said of the crash on Monday night.
It is not yet known what caused the crash of the aircraft, which was sending the minister to inspect the scene of the sinking of a ship.
