Prime Minister Edi Rama this Friday visited the city of Durrës to see closely the start of works for cleaning the area where the first phase of construction of the New Tourist Port of the city will be realized, where he spoke closely with the main investor of this projects.
Rama was accompanied in this meeting by Minister Belinda Balluku, who informed him about the progress of this project.
“With the head of the global company Emaar Group, Mohamed El Alabbar, in the framework of the preparations for the cleaning of the area where Phase 1 of the construction of the New Tourist Port of Durrës will be realized, while the investor will engage a considerable financing for water purification of the sea along the new beach to be created in the Phase 1 area“, Writes Rama on Facebook.
Mohamed El Alabbar told the project that the company has brought to life, further explaining the details. He said that this port will be the largest in the Mediterranean, becoming a very interesting tourist destination.
El Alabbar: This is our space, this is the project we have brought to life. We are thinking here of a very beautiful gate here as people enter.
Rama: Is there a lot of time to do the cleaning?
El Alabbar: For the cleaning we have two consultants one American and one from Dubai, who are working on the environmental aspect. They go all the way to the sea, as there are many things to clean. This is the first phase and preparations are still ongoing.
Rama: It will be very important to have a fish market like in Barcelona or in other cities that have fishing.
El Alabbar: It is one of the biggest attractions today, to live and have restaurants where you bring the product from the sea to the kitchen. We will keep the terminal, move it in this space and create an infrastructure to connect it with the city and the railway.
Raman: I think that a pedestrian space should be placed here.

Rama: It would be a good space for pedestrians here. Fish market, fish restaurants something very simple but that would be fantastic.
El Alabbar: This will be something very special and I think it will be one of the best projects in the Mediterranean.
The construction of this port is expected to start from the end of March or the beginning of April and it is thought that its works will last for 6 years, while the investment according to what has been previously stated will be around 2 billion Euros. The construction will be done in 5 phases and it is expected to employ thousands of citizens and attract hundreds of thousands of tourists from around the world.
