American singer R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison on charges of being in charge of a sexual abuse scheme with children and women. Robert Sylvester Kelly, full name, was also fined $ 100,000
Kelly, known for hit songs like “I believe i can fly” and “Ignition” – was found to have used his fame to seduce women and children by sexually abusing them for two decades.
When the verdict was announced, Judge Ann Donnelly said that the singer had forced his victims to do extremely serious things, against their will, many of them even fell ill,
For 6 weeks the judges heard how he trafficked women between different US states, assisted by managers, security guards and other members of his inner circle.
The hearings also revealed how Kelly had forged documents to marry singer Aaliyah when she was 15 in 1994, seven years before the singer died in a plane crash. The certificate, discovered at the time, showed age of Aaliyah as 18 years old. The marriage was annulled months later.
Judges portrayed Kelly as an adult in poverty, in a family full of violence and suffering from sexual abuse at an early age.
