Funeral homes seem to be the most popular business lately.
No one is stopping the opening of these funeral homes in residential areas even though it is a government decision in force that prohibits the operation of these businesses in residential buildings and in places visible to the public.
If we carefully observe the main roads in the cities and not only, anyone who owns a funeral services agency, can easily open a “Funeral House” attached through the agency nephew, regardless of the main criteria, the place where it should be developed. this type of activity, so as not to bring concerns to the residents of the surrounding community. Kristina, a resident in the area of Astir, Tirana, has asked for the help of the show “Fiks Fare” after the neighbor near her house wants to develop a business “Shtëpi Funerali”.
The complainant says that the administrator of the agency in the first meetings lied to her, telling her that this facility will be used for a coffee bar. Shortly afterwards, the complainant realizes that the works in this building were being done for the Funeral House and she could not leave it, as the subject is very close to the lady’s house and according to her there is no need to experience the mortal emotions of different people. The complainant states that from this conflict the children told her that if the owner of the funeral agency returns this property to the funeral home we will leave the house.
In talks with the denouncer of Fiks Fare, the owner of the Agency, Sulejman Habibi, says that this facility will become a coffee bar and there is still no license for this type of business.
In a meeting with journalists, he admits that all interventions in the internal structure of the building are being made to fit him in the funeral home, but he did not tell the denouncer the truth for fear that she would not allow it.
After a request for information addressed to the Tirana Funeral Services Agency regarding this issue, in response from this institution we were told that based on the government decision with no. 711, dated 29.10.2014, “On the administration of the funeral service” article 39 clearly states that this business can not be opened in residential buildings and in places visible to the public and as a result in this law there is no definition regarding restrictions of Funeral Homes for the operation and conditions that this type of entity must meet.
Therefore, the Funeral Services Agency of the Capital, referring to the legal and sub-legal acts that are in force, explains to Fiks Fare that it is impossible to continue with the treatment of this problem. They are also informed that work is being done to resolve this phenomenon that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic and that a draft proposal will soon be submitted to the relevant ministry to regulate the legal framework of this activity.
