Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has announced that he will not take part in the Indian Wells and Miami tournament, scheduled to be held in the coming weeks in the United States. Djokovic explained that he had given up because of the ban on entering the United States for those people who had not been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
In January, amid much debate, he was expelled from the prestigious Austrlian Open, but was also forced to leave Australia precisely because he had not been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Djokovic initially presented a medical certificate that excluded him from vaccination, but then irregularities appeared in the documentation, until the Australian authorities decided to remove him from the country.
Indian Wells and Miami are the first two tournaments of the Masters 1000 circuit season, the most important after the four Grand Slams. The organizers had included Djokovic among the players, but in order to play, the Serbian tennis player must be provided with a vaccination exemption certificate and must be obtained at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
However, his dismissal was not granted and Djokovic was forced to withdraw. His place will be taken by the Bulgarian, Grigor Dimitrov.
