Marina Ovsyannikova, a former editor at a Russian state television channel who held up an anti-war poster during a live news broadcast in March, was arrested in Moscow on Sunday.
This was announced by her lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov to CNN, while the journalist is being tried for “actions aimed at discrediting the Russian army” after she recorded a video statement on Wednesday.
Marina Ovsyannikova held a solo protest in front of the Kremlin on Sunday, and in photos she shared on her Telegram channel, she held a poster that read:
“Putin is a murderer. His soldiers are fascists. 352 children died. How many more children have to die for you to stop?”
This is not the first time the Russian state television journalist has done this, according to CNN, as she previously took a dramatic stance against President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.
During a live broadcast, she said it was “impossible to remain silent” and that she wanted the world to know that many Russians are against the invasion.
Ovsyannikova has repeatedly shown in various ways that she is against the war, where many innocent people are being killed.
