250 runners from Albania and different countries such as Macedonia, Greece, Kosovo, Israel, Italy, USA, Portugal, etc., participated today in the half marathon and 10 kilometers “Petrela Trail Running”, through the mountain trails of Petrela.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj distributed the cups to the winners of the half marathon and 10 km who were from different parts of the world, as he said that despite the difficult times we are going through, we must move forward to reach the destination.
“It is one of the first activities we are organizing after 2 extremely difficult years. It continues to be a difficult year, even though we ourselves are not involved in the war that is taking place in Ukraine, but the whole world is feeling the consequences. You are feeling the consequences of the price of energy, the price of food, the price of oil. It is very important for us to give a message, that we are destined to move forward “, said Veliaj.
The mayor said that this activity is a message that we must adapt to the situation and move forward, despite the difficulties.
“We also want to send an important message. In these difficult conditions, will we weep and complain, or will we adapt? Perhaps, the best adaptation that happens to Tirana is more focus on nature, more focus on sports, more focus on sustainable movement. Indeed, to get to Petrela some have come by car, but inside Tirana we can walk, we can run, we can use the bicycle. So I’m glad we decided to give each of the winners a bike as a gift“, Underlined Veliaj.
This great sporting event gave Tirana a new dimension in the development of active tourism, an innovation for Albania and Tirana in particular.
