The mayor of an Italian town near Bologna has said that many liters of water are being wasted by the double washing of clients’ hair by barbers.
So he has stopped double washing his head by barbers to save water amid the heat wave.
Carlo Gubellini, mayor of Castenaso, near Bologna in the Emilia-Romagna region, says the practice of double washing the head “is no longer applicable”.
“It’s a little funny,” Katia, who works at her Nuova Equipe hair salon, told the media. “I do not know about men, but for some women’s hair products it is mandatory to wash twice, especially when the client’s hair is unwashed.”
It is not known how much the development will have an impact on the rest of the country, as Castenaso has only 16,000 inhabitants and a total of 10 hair salons for women or men.
This person is believed to be the first in Italy to decide to fine women barbers or hairdressers who do so, with up to € 500.
Gubellini told Corriere della Sera that his town seeks to set an example for coping with the crisis. “We have given the order since Saturday considering that the hairdressers are closed on Sunday and Monday.”
Gubellini says he hopes the measure imposed by him by the end of September will be canceled prematurely, but the situation makes it necessary.
Other mayors of Italian towns and cities have imposed similar water rationing measures, as in Milan where some well-known fountains have been turned off.
