Officials confirmed that the suspected attacker, who had been armed with a pistol and a rifle, also died.
Police arrived at the scene Wednesday afternoon at Saint Francis Hospital, three minutes after the shooting.
Also, some people were injured by the shooting. Police Chief Eric Dalgleish said “we have four civilians dead and one assailant dead.”
He said the attacker, who has not yet been identified, is believed to have committed suicide.
The suspect “had a long gun and a pistol,” he said.
There is still no information on the possible motive of this attack.
Dalgleish said police received a call for the active assailant at 4:52 p.m. local time and arrived at the scene within three minutes.
“Officials who arrived at the scene heard gunshots in the building, which took them to the second floor of the building,” he said.
Authorities said they were interviewing witnesses inside the hospital, including those on the second floor where the attack took place.
Capital Richard Meulenberg told ABC News that when police arrived at the scene “several people had been shot” and some had already died.
He said it was a “catastrophic” scene. The White House announced that US President Joe Biden has been informed of the shooting in Tusla.
The United States has recently faced deadly gunfire, which has stepped up calls from the White House for tougher gun control.
From the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, an assailant killed 21 people, including 19 children. Meanwhile, in another attack on a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, ten African-Americans were killed./REL
