The Greek Foreign Ministry has sent a strong note of protest to the Turkish embassy in Athens regarding the dozens of flights of Turkish planes over Greek territory.
According to the Foreign Ministry, “these actions are a violation of Greek sovereignty, pose an unacceptable challenge and are contrary to the basic principles of international law.”
The protest note also states that “these acts, in addition to being illegal and provocative, endanger international air traffic, are completely contrary to the principle of good neighborly relations between the two countries and undermine efforts to consolidate a climate of trust.”
According to official Athens, a number of flights by Turkish planes over the Greek islands in Arkious, Lipsous, Agathonisi, Farmakonisi, Samos, Foyrnoys and Oinouses were recorded on Wednesday morning.
Defense Ministry sources stated that Turkish F-16 fighter jets have been identified and intercepted by Greek ones, in accordance with international rules.
