Germany wants to use the presidency of the Group of Seven (G7) to support the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and step up efforts to improve environmental protection.
This is what the German Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner, said on January 1.
“Germany has taken over the presidency of the G7 for 2022 – the G7 states stand for freedom, democracy and progress,” Lindner wrote on Twitter.
“With this in mind, we need to overcome the pandemic and accelerate global economic recovery,” he added.
Lindner is the leader of the Free Democrats, which is the junior partner of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s German government coalition.
The Minister of Finance also said that he wants in the next meetings of the G7 Finance Ministers, the agenda of the talks to focus on the issue of digitalization and climate change./ REL
