The German embassy in South Africa has condemned Russia’s claims that it attacked Ukraine to “cleanse the Nazis” of Ukraine, accusing it of killing innocent people.
The embassy responded to a comment on the social networks of their Russian counterparts, as the latter presented the motives for launching the military operation in Ukraine last month.
The Russian comment said: “We have received many letters of solidarity from individuals and organizations in South Africa.”
“We appreciate your support and we are happy that you have decided to stay with us at a time when Russia, like 80 years ago, is fighting against Nazism in Ukraine!”
But German diplomats replied: “I’m sorry but we can not be silent about this, it is very cynical.”
“What Russia is doing in Ukraine is to kill innocent people and not to fight Nazism. Unfortunately we are experts in this,” the German embassy added.
The Russian incursion into Ukraine began on February 24 and has been condemned by the Western community.
But the war has raised the nuclear alert as Putin has set the nuclear arsenal on high alert, in response to Western sanctions.
Russia also warned Britain today about aid to Ukraine.
Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said: “Russia will not forget Britain’s desire to cooperate with the ultra-nationalist forces in Ukraine by supplying them with weapons.
“The hysteria of sanctions that London is playing has only one purpose, to leave Russia no choice but to take tough counter-measures.”
“London has made the final choice to open the confrontation with Russia.”
