“We welcome and support Kosovo’s application for membership in the Council of Europe. Schwabe is chairing the German parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe, while Ahmetovic is the keynote speaker for the Western Balkans in the Foreign Affairs Committee for the Social Democrat parliamentary group in the German Parliament.

They expressed confidence that Kosovo would achieve the two-thirds required for membership in the Council of Europe and stressed their commitment within the EU to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia and to liberalize visas for citizens of Kosovo.
The two deputies see Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe “as a chance to make progress on these two issues.”
The two Social Democrat politicians, a party to which Chancellor Olaf Scholz also belongs, thus reinforce once again Germany’s commitment to the Western Balkans with this statement.
