I have been in Tirana / Albania for three days for high political talks. The focus was on two topics:
- Albania’s EU membership:
Albania should not be a victim of the shameful blockade of Bulgaria. Albania should now be invited to the next intergovernmental conference as the next concrete step in the EU accession process.
- The situation of the Democratic Party, PD:
Albania’s parliamentary democracy needs a united, strong opposition. The personal agendas of individuals should not play a role outside of responsibility for the country. It is clear that any kind of cooperation with a “persona non grata” both nationally and internationally is prohibited from the beginning. This is a common, undisputed position that we strictly represent in unison with our friends in the US.
