A former Qatari princess has been found dead at her villa in Marbella, Spain at the age of 45, as it was a fierce legal battle with her ex-husband, whom she has in one case accused of harassing one of the girls.
Kasia Gallanio was the third wife of billionaire Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al Thani, 73, the uncle of the current Emir of Qatar.
She claims that the former Qatari Minister of Oil and Finance had sexually harassed one of their three daughters.
The ex-husband has denied the allegations.
Gallanio, who had an extravagant lifestyle, was associated with celebrities and attended Sofia Vergara’s wedding to Joe Manganiello in 2015, was found dead Sunday morning in Spain as a result of a suspected drug overdose.
According to the daily Le ParisienSpanish police had found Gallanio’s body in a bed with no signs of violence.
She was found after one of the daughters had informed the police from Paris that she could not contact her mother for days, as reported by the Spanish network El Pais .
Le Parisien wrote that on May 19 a court in Paris had rejected the allegations of custody of the girls by Gallanio.
The deceased had spent several months in hospital in France and the media reported that she was suffering from depression-related illnesses.
The judge had therefore postponed the process for a psychological assessment to better understand the family circumstances, according to Le Parisien.
The former couple had two 17-year-old twin daughters living with Al Thani and later settled with their mother in Marbella.
But then they were separated from her for unknown reasons.
They also have another 15-year-old girl living with the Prince of Qatar, in a 15,000-square-foot apartment in Paris, after he was forced into exile after a coup by his half-brother Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in 1995.
The former couple were in a 15-year custody legal battle with mutual abuse charges.
Gallanio was of Polish descent but born in Los Angeles. She met Abdelaziz when she was 19 and they were married in 2004.
Talking to the network Olive Press – A friend of Gallanio described him as a “good man” who was against drugs and denied that he was an alcoholic.
The deceased recently wrote to her 500,000 followers on Instagram:
“First of all, a man should never reject the mother of his children. As angry, jealous as the father of my children is, I am doing my best to feed, love and educate my daughters. I’m not perfect but I try my best. “Children should never be used as victims or hostages when parents do not go with each other.”
“The father of my children, Prince Abdulaziz Khalifa Al Thani, has not paid anything for a year to help raise the children. The children cannot be turned into victims.”
The autopsy will determine the cause of Gallanio’s death, as initial signs suggest a drug overdose.
