The American media said today with irony that “they are not looking at Mike Pompeo much, not only since the Trump administration’s departure from the White House, but because the former secretary of state is now 40 kg thinner”.
The former CIA director has faced many challenges in his life but says he is reluctant to talk about the impressive weight loss, mainly for fear that he may regain the lost pounds.
It all started in June 2021, when Pompeo climbed the scales and saw for the first time that he had weighed 130 kg.
In an interview with Fox News, Pompeo said: “I told the woman ‘Today is the day'”.
“I started training, not every day but almost every day, I started eating the right way and the weight started to fall on its own.”
Pompeo, 58, says he spent some money on a gym in his basement with weights and jogging machines.
“I tried to go down to the gym five or six times a week and stay there for at least half an hour. “There was nothing scientific, I had no personal trainer or dietitian, it was just me.”
Pompeo shows that he started gaining weight since he was elected to Congress in 2010 but the battle with excess pounds he says he has fought all along.
He says that in order to take the major initiative he had to find the right state of mind.
“For me it was to find the right situation and enough discipline, similar to government posts where the pressure is high. “This time I dedicated myself to my health.”
“For my family, food is the time when we get together. “We are originally from Italy and we like to gather around a plate of pasta, bread with cheese or dessert.”
“But with the new virtuoso cycle instead of the vicious one, I managed to lose almost 40 kg in six months.”
A poll this month shows that in the US 41 percent of adults describe themselves as overweight, up from 36 percent who did this five years ago.
Gallup complainants said the findings contrasted with official data describing three-quarters of Americans as ‘overweight’ or ‘obese’.
Pompeo said he understands this. “No one admits that they have gained weight or that they are overweight, even though all the evidence shows otherwise.”
