Rising temperatures in the summer season increases the risk of fires in green areas where in 90% of cases they are caused by man intentionally or accidentally. To manage this situation, Tirana firefighters have added 3 new stations and 25 percent staff.
“During the summer months we have set up 3 new stations in the area of Dajti, Petrela and Mullet as we consider them as risk areas. The service stays in the area until 20.00 pm. We have also consulted with the residents of these areas to be careful. We are shutting down this year as well, we are operating with volunteer firefighters “- said the director of Tirana firefighters, Shkëlqim Goxhaj.
While in urban areas 24/7 7 fire stations are on standby. The most common fires in the city are those in dwellings caused mainly by gas leaks for cooking.
“Citizens should not use 5 kg orange gas cylinders. They are for camping and are for single use only. Citizens replenish them and most of the events happen exactly from these canisters. Even the citizens who use other cylinders must refill them at the authorized points, not at the gas station. ”- said Shkëlqim Goxhaj
Burning of vehicles also remains problematic. In the capital’s fire brigades almost every day there are reports of burning vehicles
“I would advise them to keep a small fire in the car in order to intervene quickly as soon as they notice the flames. This prevents the fire from getting bigger, ”said Tirana Fire Director Shkëlqim Goxhaj.
