At least five British Army ceremonial guards were recorded yesterday losing consciousness outside St Paul’s cathedral in London, for the British queen’s jubilee service on the throne.
The local Daily Mail wrote that the special incidents took place shortly before Prince Charles came to the cathedral for the special ceremony that opens the festivities.
The guards on duty were trying to maintain their professionalism and demeanor, as three soldiers were seen being helped to their feet by colleagues.
The British Ministry of Defense said a total of five soldiers had lost consciousness but none of them had needed to be taken to hospital.
Temperatures in London yesterday were around 21C but officials said that “staying a few hours in the heat and in full military uniform had caused its effect on the military.”
The first soldier from the RAF air force regiment lost consciousness when Foreign Minister Lizz Truss was climbing the steps of the cathedral. He was quickly evacuated by two military men for medical attention.
Moments later a soldier of the Canadian Artillery Regiment, lost his balance before regaining position on the steps of the cathedral.
A member of the Queen’s Guard leaned against the wall and was escorted to see a doctor.
Only three of the five guards who lost consciousness have been captured in British media images.
The defense ministry said all the soldiers had been treated at the scene and did not need to be taken to hospital.
At yesterday’s ceremony at the cathedral the 96-year-old queen did not attend due to fatigue and movement deficiencies after the celebrations at Buckingham Palace a day earlier.
