Two fishermen in Texas, USA were shocked when they hooked up a rare black alligator last week.
29-year-old Justin Jordan, fishing consultant in Galveston, Texastold the Fox News network that the moment he saw the rare fish.
“It was a wild experience,” says Jordan.
He says he has fished in Galveston all his life, but the day he was with fellow fisherman Terrell Maguire they spotted a “threatening-looking fish” in the swamp.
Maguire released his hook and the turkey fish went immediately drawn by the colors.
“Swordfish started jumping out of the water and making frantic movements,” says Jordan. “When we got him in the boat and they reached the ground we saw that he was completely black.”
Jordan says they later realized it was not a swordfish but one melanic alligator ie black with a high level of melanin.
Usually alligators are brown or dark green and very rarely do fishermen see or catch a melancholy alligator.
The animal can grow up to 3 meters tall and weigh up to 100 kg, according to the National Geographic network.
“We took some pictures then put it back in the water and released it,” says Jordan.
He adds that he was impressed by the capture and considered himself lucky.
“We’ve caught other weird things before, even though we weren’t looking for something like that,” says Jordan.
