Immediately after taking the oath in the plenary session, Bajram Begaj gave his first speech as President of the Republic.
“Thank you for your trust. Taking office at this moment, burdens the responsibility of our national unity. This responsibility comes at a historic moment for the country. Albania has entered the road of no return to Europe. Today’s European Albania, tomorrow’s promise, tomorrow’s reality is the fulfillment of centuries-old projects.
We are sitting at the dialogue table to prove our worthiness as a country and state. I recognize and support the government’s work, but effort cannot justify any failure. I respect the values of the opposition. The period we are living in is one of the most difficult, after the pandemic, the Russian aggression against Ukraine has plunged the world into another crisis, awakening dark memories. No one can be exempted from the consequences. Our commitment is to find ways to alleviate the situation and to hold the seat of responsibility. Let’s not avoid tasks and not take advantage of difficult situations. The crisis of transition, the crises produced from inside or outside, from the inability to find a common path, all these have created uncertainty.
I swore today that I will serve the constitution and fulfill my duty, I will carry out this mission on the parties.
I will support the cooperation between political forces in finding common paths because in the end we are citizens’ servants. We need to redimension public trust. We must not shy away from the mistakes of the past. We need a policy of dialogue and coexistence. Resolutely consolidate the rule of law to guarantee a future that citizens deserve. To fight to find the lost values. Let’s work for a political and human harmony. Let’s all together make our Albania more beautiful, may God bless Albania and the Albanians. Thank you!” was Bajram Begaj’s first speech as president of the Republic of Albania.
