The process of restoration of teaching facilities as a result of their damage from the earthquake of November 2019 in some of the schools has stalled in the country. A few days ago, the parents of the students of the school “26 Nëntori” asked for the help of the show Fiks Fare, since this school is out of order due to the earthquake.
From December 2021, the students of this school must develop the teaching process in the gymnasium “Besnik Sykja” in Tirana, where teaching would take place in two shifts.
Parents of students express concern, as it is very tiring for them and the children. They claim that the school was damaged by the earthquake, but nothing is being done to start the works so that it can be put back to work and open doors for students. “This year went as it went, what will be done for next year? The journalists of Fiks Fare went to the gymnasium ‘Besnik Sykja’ where the students of the 9-year school “26 Nëntori” were on a long break, they said that they have more than a year and a half to complete the teaching process in the gymnasium “Besnik Sykja”. But just a few days ago the parents of the students were told that in the next week just two months before the end of the school year 2021-2022 they need to be transferred to another school. In addition to the change of facilities, students have to adjust to the change of schedule, as in the new school where they will be transferred, classes will start at 13:30 and end at 19:30.
During a meeting with parents, the seventh grade caretaker teacher says that no one has asked her about these changes. Parents also express concern that they have paid for private lessons for their children during school hours and need to find a common solution.
From the research done by the journalists of Fiks Fare, it resulted that the school ’26 Nëntori ‘in Tirana is on the list of schools, which will be reconstructed with the funds made available by the European Union.
The search on the official website of EU4Schools shows that the repair of the school ’26 November ‘should have started on 22 July 2021 and the delivery should have been done on 04 February 2022.
Fiks Fare contacted the director of this school, Sheri Banushi. According to the latter, permission from the Municipality of Tirana has been given for the reconstruction. The construction company has notified the school to remove the teaching aids and other facilities, for the start of work, but the fund has not yet been disbursed by EU4Schools.
