Fiks Fare denounced on Thursday evening a fraud that happens to citizens by selling industrial water for drinking water. Static water points located in the city of Tirana, where every citizen by inserting a token, fills the water bottle, advertised as the source “Krullia” or “St. George” do not trade drinking water.
About 50 such points trade water every day under the deception that it is drinking water, while trading industrial water, thus endangering the lives of thousands of residents.
The institutions that have the responsibility to carry out inspections to prevent such things not only did not do so, but according to the evidence provided by the show Fiks Fare, they received money from the abusers.
Currently in the capital the sale of water illegally is done in two ways. Through autobots and static self-service points that we see in every area of Tirana. The show Fiks Fare to prove this abuse initially shot for days the buses that fill the cisterns with water in the area of Dajti and Lanabregas, even in the main water supply line Tirana. Then they go down to the city and trade it as spring water not only on the bus, but also in static self-service points, where spring water and microfiltration are advertised.
Fiksi shot with a hidden camera the drivers who say that the water fills at the source, while Fiksi proved that the water in the autobot was taken from the UKT pipe. Fiks journalists go out on the field together with the director of UKT, Mr. Elton Kacidhja in Dajt and Lanabregas where Fiksi identified the interventions in the water supply and sewerage network. Director Kacidhja together with the Task Force in the field undertook to bring to justice the persons who violated it. While Mr. Kacidhja was inspecting at one point, Fiks associates identified an autobot that was filled with water at those moments inside the yard of a house. The Task Force went there and confirmed that the autobot was filling up on the UKT network. Households selling water to the worlds had zero consumption on their watches and meanwhile made connections to the network illegally. So one person was escorted to the police station while two others were arrested under the OPGJ.
But in addition to autobots, there are also 50 static points where citizens buy water with tokens that enter ATMs. Fix journalists go to such a point with the Task Force at UKT and with an inspector of the State Health Inspectorate, they claim that it is not responsibility their trading water in this form.
The inspector of the State Health Inspectorate also says that none of these points has been provided with a hygienic-sanitary act. ISHSH says that in these points untreated water is traded. According to the verifications performed in static points, the water is industrial and not drinkable. After this moment, the journalists of Fiks asked for an answer to the National Food Authority where they were officially told that they have not inspected these points, as they do not sell drinking water there.
But not only that, the journalists asked for answers in other institutions, where the Tirana Municipal Police said that they were responsible only for public spaces, while the Water Resources Management Agency, which has provided these entities with permits to use the resource, says that the answers for the source not for the consumer. The permit obtained by the entities for the use of the resource is with industrial water, ie not drinking water. AMBU Inspector Marjus Seiti explained to reporters that he is interested in the health of the source, not the consumer, as it is not the institution that says whether the water is drinkable or not.
But what happened that all state institutions surrendered before an illegality?
For one of the administrators of the static points it was not easy, because according to him he had to pay all these institutions and he continued the activity, while the consumer risks his life every day.
