Fiks Fare denounced on Wednesday evening a scandal with rising prices, where this time affected are hundreds of thousands of farmers, who have to pay three times for agricultural inputs.
In a time of “war”, as politicians and statesmen describe it, farmers are going bankrupt and emigrating, leaving their land to work in emigration. The journalists of the investigative show traveled to the barns of Albanian agriculture, respectively in Lushnje, Berat and Fier. Farmers, who are standing in line to get a free oil drop, complain of high prices, making it difficult for them to work and make a living.
Initially, the journalists traveled to the village of Samaticë, in the Dimal Municipality. The owner of a farm, which had 40 cows and calves, was worried about further progress. According to him, the cost of feed for cows had become more expensive, as the main base came from imports, especially from Serbia. starting from one year but these three months have grown even more. Meanwhile, another agricultural family complained about agricultural inputs, while the son of the family is considering leaving Albania. Meanwhile, another farmer, after rising prices, is considering closing the farm. “He will slaughter cows and calves. S’ia dal dot. The bridge has gone 130 thousand quintals, from 50 thousand that has been years. Also dapi, from 50 to 130. Meanwhile, nitrate has gone to 105 thousand ALL, from 40 that has been “he says.
After Dimali, the camera of Fiks Fare went to the villages of Lushnja, where again the farmers have the same problem: high prices! One farmer, who had planted 7 acres of barley, says that at the cost of tillage, milling, planting, fertilizing, spraying, harvesting or even grinding, it is no longer worth it to plant. Another, who has planted wheat, says they only come out at a loss. “I only get the straw in the end. “I am not counting the labor force here,” he says. Mostly, even in this line, the complaints are about the very high prices of dap, urea and nitrate, which are the basis for wheat, corn, alfalfa, vegetables and many other agricultural crops.
Following these complaints, journalists are questioned at several stores that sell these inputs. Owners and employees point out that the increase has come from wholesalers, who have tripled the price. “They have increased from 10 to 15%, but also from VAT,” says another. Meanwhile, Fiksi also asked an agricultural pharmacy in the town of Shijak, who said growth was still expected. “I bought them a few months ago, I got 1 quintal of bridge for 60 thousand ALL. It is now double. “They are raising prices every day,” says the employee.
Meanwhile, Fiks Fare made a comparison of the prices of some agricultural inputs. Last year, 1 quintal dap was with 52 thousand old lekë, this year 120-130 thousand lekë. The same price for urea, while nitrate from 40 thousand has gone to about 100 thousand. Superphosphate from 22 thousand years, to 36 thousand in 2022, while the greenhouse fertilizers have also increased, all to the extent of 10%.
But, who brings these agricultural inputs to Albania ?! On March 17, in the rostrum of the Parliament, the deputy Erion Braçe, said that 1 quintal of urea or dap, the companies bring it with 85 thousand lekë and sell it with 130 thousand lekë. He denounced the 3 agricultural inputs, the increase in the price of dap, urea and nitrate. According to Brace, “there are two or three companies that come together, in the form of cartels, and set the price.” He further stated that the companies “Agro Blend” and “MBM” bring dapin and urea to Albania. Nitrate is brought by the companies “Agrohelb” and “Besniku”. “They have over 95 percent of the market,” he added, adding that these firms cooperate with each other. “Nitrate is sold for 104 thousand ALL, comes with 52 thousand ALL, 100% increase. Ureja and dapi are sold for 130 thousand lekë, they come for 87 thousand lekë ”said Brace, presenting the customs invoices that these companies import in Albania.
Fiks Fare reporters went to the wholesale outlets trading these three products, dap, urea and nitrate. At the “Agro Blend” point in Vore, the employee said that the goods for sale were bought several months ago. “We had stock in the warehouse,” said the employee, while showing that the wholesale price is 125 thousand quintals. Same price for urea. Meanwhile, the journalists went to Kavaja, to the point of the firm “MBM”. The employees said that the price has increased, while after the “bazaar”, the owners reduced only 5 thousand old quintals. Further, the owner said that prices are expected to rise. The journalists also went to the “Agro Blend” point in Kavaja, where the employees show that they were in a good condition. Meanwhile, in the company “Besniku”, in Maminas, the owner says that the nitrate has increased from 40 to 100 thousand old lekë. He showed several types of bridges, while he says that one of them costs 140 thousand ALL.
