Six people were killed and 15 wounded in a Russian attack in Slovyansk, a city in eastern Ukraine, Mayor Vadim Liakh said today.
He said in a video posted on Facebook that these were the heaviest strikes by multiple rocket launchers in a long time.
“There were 15 fires, we have more dead and injured”, Liakh said.
Tetiana Ignachenko, spokeswoman for the Donetsk region to which Slovyansk belongs, told Ukrainian media that “six people were killed and 15 wounded” in the bombing.
According to Ukrainian media, one of the fires broke out in the city market.
Further south, the city of Kramatorsk, the administrative center of Donbas under the control of Ukrainian forces, is the target of attacks for the second day in a row. According to Mayor Oleksandr Goncharenko, the city was hit by Smerch missiles.
According to him, a residential area and an empty hotel were hit, but there were no victims.
Slovyansk and Kramatorsk are under direct threat from Russian forces, especially if Kiev confirms the fall of Lisichansk.
