Prior to the meeting of Southeast European countries held in Romania, the chairman of the Republican Party, Mr. Mediu, was received by the Romanian Prime Minister, Nicolae Ciuca, together with Mr. Mediu and MP Toni Gogu, were also the representative of the US Congress, parliament. British Parliamentary Assembly and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Mediu thanked the Romanian Prime Minister for the support that Romania has given to Albania in NATO membership and EU negotiations.
The Romanian Prime Minister expressed support for the inclusion of Albania in important initiatives such as the three seas, which after the occupation of Ukraine becomes extremely important for the development and avoidance of Europe’s energy dependence on Russia and the influence of China.
During the meeting in parliament, Mr. Mediu together with MP Toni Gogu, attended the security conference. The conference was attended by MPs from all over Southeast Europe, the British Parliament and the United States.
Mr. Mediu, as co-organizer of this event with members of the Romanian Parliament, stressed that security issues are very complex and it is required that parliaments be widely involved.
He stressed that Putin illegally attacked Ukraine seeking to destabilize the whole of Europe. It is clear that in this effort Russia has a clear alliance with China. He noted that the armament of Serbia by Russia and China spending about 3% of GDP without any threat, the presence of Russia and Kuna in the region, the problems in BiH, Republika Srpska’s secessionist stance in coordination with Moscow, the stalling of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and the non-recognition of Kosovo’s independence make the Balkans very fragile.
The comparisons made between Kosovo and Ukraine are completely baseless and clearly show that Russia seeks to create tensions in the Balkans.
The NATO Summit is of paramount importance and calls on NATO member states in the Balkans to come up with a common position to avoid possible influences and tensions stimulated by Russia and China.
Finally, I reiterate the position of the Secretary General of NATO
“We must recognize that our economic choices have consequences for our security.
Freedom is more important than free trade.
Protecting our values is more important than profit”.
