Owners of resorts and bars on a popular island of surf athletes in the Philippines, face high costs for repairs by typhoon Rai.
The powerful storm that hit the archipelago also included the Siargao area, a tropical paradise with wide beaches, big waves and relaxing places.
Winds of up to 195 kilometers per hour hit the island on Thursday, uprooting trees, knocking down wooden buildings and an electric pole.
The devastation was huge on the island that has been voted this year as the best holiday destination in Asia by ‘Nast Traveler’.
“The day after the storm we went outside and to our surprise we said, ‘This is Siargao now, everything is ruined,'” said 27-year-old chef Clodine Mendoza.
The storm was a severe blow to tour operators in the season when many Filipino families head to the famous beaches.
