The first two extraditions were made between Albania and the Kingdom of Spain, after the agreement reached between the two countries.
In less than two months after the entry into force, today, on dt. 05.05.2022, the General Prosecutor’s Office was notified of the arrest of two Albanian citizens, respectively in Kukës and Vlora.
The citizens were declared internationally wanted by Interpol Madrid in 2020 and 2021, respectively, for the criminal offenses of “drug trafficking” and “Criminal organization”, “Document falsification”, “Violation of the drug law”.
On March 16, 2022, the Extradition Agreement between the Republic of Albania and the Kingdom of Spain entered into force.
The General Prosecutor’s Office, based on the Agreement between the Republic of Albania and the Kingdom of Spain, (in addition to the European Convention on Extradition of 13 December 1957, ratified by Law no. 17/2022, (entered into force on 16.03.2022), as and Articles 493 et seq. of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Albania, initiated the execution of relevant procedural actions related to the extradition of two citizens by forwarding the documentation to the competent prosecutions.
Albania currently has bilateral extradition agreements with the Republic of Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, the Republic of Kosovo and most recently the Kingdom of Spain.
