The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, this Thursday said that in addition to extending the vetting deadlines, the Albanian Parliament will vote on the establishment of two commissions, the one for electoral reform and the territorial reform, according to which, two key priorities for the Party Democratic.
In a statement to reporters, the leader of the Democrats stressed that with the vote of the opposition today in the Assembly, a chance is given to a justice to correct and handcuff any person who breaks the law and not by dealing with the weak, but those who abuse with public funds.
He stressed that the DP does not vote for the Socialist Party, as the latter wanted the vetting to pass to the HJC and HJC, which are captured by it. For Basha, vetting politicians is the top priority of Democrats.
“I am honored to tell you that the Assembly will approve today two important Commissions, the commission for territorial reform and the commission for electoral reform. In particular, the reason why we are in that parliament is the electoral reform to restore the legitimacy of the vote. Today we are taking a big step forward by forcing these two reforms. Vetting in politics, banning the prime minister from having more than two terms and a clean majority system are part of a package that could not be linked to the extension of vetting deadlines due to deadlines. Vetting of politicians is a top priority of the Democratic Party. We do not vote for the Socialist Party, the Socialist Party wanted the vetting to pass to the HJC and the HJC which are captured by it“, Said Basha.
While the parties of the political parties have had different approaches, the international factor has called on the deputies of the Albanian Parliament to vote “for” the extension of the vetting mandates.
Initially, it was the delegation of the European Union in Albania and that of the American Embassy, which two days ago issued a joint statement.
They stressed that they “strongly” support the extension of the mandate of the vetting bodies.
Recall that on October 15, 2021, the SP submitted to the Assembly a request to extend the vetting mandate.
The majority demanded that the deadlines of the Independent Qualification Commission and the Special Appellate Panel be extended until 2024.
The opposition opposed it, while it has not yet formalized the position it will take.
However, the last word belongs to the Albanian Parliament: will they listen to the call of the international factor, voting and approving the changes with 84 votes in favor, or will they adhere to their approaches?
