The Russian oligarch with residence in Britain, Alisher Usmanov, was seized today the 170-meter-long super yacht, after the local government measures to stop Putin’s finances.
The super-rich tycoon has been the main sponsor of the Everton FC football team in the Premier League, while the seizure is a step of Europe’s scheme to stifle Russian business by sanctioning the richest.
The Dilbar yacht, built specifically for 68-year-old Usmanov, is the largest in the world in terms of interior space.
The vehicle is said to be one of his most prized possessions but will now remain anchored in the German port city of Hamburg.
The yacht has been there since the end of October where it was carrying out repair work.
The development comes as Usmanov himself has been banned from traveling to the EU and his banking assets have been frozen following crackdowns on Russian oligarchs.
Dilbar is estimated to cost around milionë 60 million each year for cruises, has a pool about 30 meters long, two helicopter tracks, guest rooms and an underwater observation point.
Usmanov spent millions on the yacht in 2016, earned from investments in mining, media, telecommunications and sports, as is a significant percentage of the shares of London club Arsenal FC.
In a statement from his company, Usmanov said: “On February 28, 2022, I was subjected to restrictive measures imposed by the European Union. “I believe the country was unfair and the sanctions were used to justify damaging allegations against my honor, dignity and reputation in business.”
Although involved in EU sanctions, Usmanov is not subject to British sanctions.
Usmanov pays milionë 6 million a year to sponsor Everton football club.
Usmanov previously owned 30 percent of Arsenal’s shares, some of which he sold in 2018.
Earlier in 2020 he said on the issue: “How can I be afraid of sanctions when I have tried much harder things in life. “They are serious but I do not want to get involved in political issues.”
