The phenomenon of flight of professionals has also affected the Order of the Psychologist of Albania, which has about 1900 members, since its creation in 2017.
“We have 1900 members registered with the Order of Psychologists since its inception. About 1200 members are currently active.
This means that this difference of 700 members are not an active part of the Order of the Psychologist.
And what turns out to us is that 400-450 of them have finally left Albania. The most massive departure of psychologists from the Order of Psychologists has occurred during the last 3 years. Mainly in Germany, Canada and the United States, but also Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, have absorbed most of the psychologists.
The profession of psychologist is extremely sought after today all over the world, which is paying great attention to mental health. In these conditions, the states never have the necessary capacities, so they look for professionals in Albania as well.
There are several ways to measure the departure of psychologists from Order membership. We constantly have people who come and ask for their license to be renewed, in order to complete the necessary documentation to then leave Albania. Another way is through emails. We are constantly in touch and send information, but often the emails we send, we are answered saying I am no longer in Albania, I have settled in Germany, America or Canada, to work and live here.
We also issue a Certificate of “Good Conduct”. There have been psychologists who have come and made a request that they have no disciplinary action under the Order of Psychologist, that they have good ethical behavior, so that later this document will be valid in the state where they work.
The departure of psychologists is undoubtedly a great concern, which should alarm us. We have invested so much for these psychologists so it is painful to see good professionals leaving the country to be hired elsewhere, while they have had so much to give to their country. : – tha Valbona Treska.
