European Council President Charles Michel, after a virtual summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping today, said that China can not close its eyes and not see all the violations of international law that Russia is committing against Ukraine and the whole world.
The European Union and China, in closing the virtual conversation, agreed that this war is threatening global security and the world economy, and that the EU will welcome positive steps from China to help end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“We will remain vigilant against any attempt to help Russia financially or militarily and to circumvent the sanctions imposed on Russia for its occupation of Ukraine. “Any move by China to support the end of the war will be welcomed by the whole world.” said Michel
“We had the opportunity to explain the position of the EU, to call on China to act, to commit to take an active part in all efforts being made to restore peace and stability.” he added.
The virtual summit that took place today was also attended by the President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen, who said that the EU made it very clear that China should not interfere in Russia’s sanctions.
