About 10,000 homes are without power in northern Scotland and the north-east of England and dozens of schools will remain closed for another day as efforts continue to clear areas hit by Hurricanes Malik and Corrie.
The Electricity grid was on red alert as 114,500 consumers were left in the dark. Attempts to repair the damage were hampered by strong and persistent winds in the area.
Although for some of the affected residents the energy was restored, almost 10 thousand others are still left in the dark and cold, and this situation can last.
The lack of heating has forced the authorities to decide that many schools should be closed. The power distribution network has also suffered major damage.
Hurricane Malik crashed these days over western Europe leaving behind several dead. Strong winds and heavy rain and snow hit the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany and Poland, leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity. Due to that, some bridges were closed, ferries did not sail and many train trips were canceled, and floods were not absent.
