European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU is ready to send joint investigative teams to Ukraine to document reported war crimes.
She tweeted that she had spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the “brutal killing of civilians in Bucha and elsewhere in Ukraine.”
The teams will be co-ordinated with Ukraine’s attorney general, with the support of the European police agency Europol and the criminal justice agency Eurojust.
Shocking images of civilian bodies on the streets of Bucha, near Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, have shocked the world as accusations have been leveled against Russia.
For its part, Moscow has denied targeting civilians during its occupation.
